Abby Stiglets (aka: Aby3)

Picture
I currently live in Oklahoma.  I create my work at home in my studio.

There is a lot about me in my work. I was born in Fort Worth, Texas and moved to Edmond,
Oklahoma in 1996.   I am quiet, but inside I have large and extravagant trains
of thought.  I feel my art reveals the inner workings of my mind which allows
the viewer to hop on board.  It is my way of being social and bold and at the
same time therapeutic for when I feel a tidal wave of moods.

I love using strong colors because they help to achieve the initial spark to stop the viewer in their tracks.
It makes me think of a quiet scream.  My pieces are feminine because I love the beauty of
a female form and I am a sucker for couture fashion and hair.  The latest works
of mine have been females  wearing masks.  I feel we put on alot of faces during
the day to deal with certain aspects in life,  I sometimes question if I ever
expose my real one.  So my current work has been a study on the masks we wear
and the beauty of the deceit.  The cat is my favorite mask.  It's alluring
and at the same time fierce.  I like to portray my cat masked characters as
strong and dominating, but then in the detail I show hints of their
vulnerablity; such as an exposed heart, a cage, or a halo.

My paintings are created using water-mixable oil paints called Max by Grumbacher.  They have the advantages of
oil paint without the use of pungent solvents and can be mixed with acrylic paint and/or oil paint.  Most of the time I paint on canvas, but I also enjoy
the texture of wood.

My art is full of influences.  I minored in psychology and it helped me to focus on what I am  emotionally trying to say in my work.  I am inspired by the surrealist work of Salvador Dali and the stunning pieces of Gustav Klimt, Frida Kahlo, and pop surrealist artists like Mark Ryden, Lori Earley, Greg Simkins, Chris Mars, and
Naoto Hattori. I enjoy staring at paintings from the old masters like Sandro Botticelli's roman mythology work and other renaissance paintings.  I love to
explore the fashion of women of all decades and analyze the couture pieces of today. I also appreciate all iconographical religious art like Buddhism,
Christianity, and Hinduism.
